SPOTLIGHT | Ayanna Williams | Actress

When you first saw the annoucement for the show, what
caught your eye?
First, art is the most powerfull tool that impacts social change. So when I saw the announcment, for a Black play and Black playwright, it automatically caught my eye, because the subject matter is a ongoing conversation that our community needs to have
regarding Homosexuality and the church. In addition, I am always looking for experiences that can empower me and help me develop my artistry, subject matter that exists within my community allows me to find a deeper connection to the story and subject matter.
Ayanna, a native Washingtonian, began performing at age 9 in a school assembly, singing an adapted version of the song Imagine by the Beatles. She always had a passion and love for performing and went on to sing throughout middle school in various choirs, discovered musical theatre in high school, and continued to train extensively in theatre, dance, and music in college. Some favorite credits include productions of, “Into the Woods”, “For Colored Girls…..”, “Madame Scrooge”, and of coarse her New York City debut “ A Love Like Damien’s”. Ms. Williams looks forward to continue to develop her skills in music, theatre, and dance and to new opportunities to come. She would like to thank all of her family and friends that continue to give her constant love and support. She would also like to thank director Andre Lancaster for this opportunity and the cast and crew for doing an excellent job!
